Synergist to Develo Transportation Management Center at CTTC

A system to improve northeastern Pennsylvania highways’ safety and efficiency will be developed at the Carbondale Technology Transfer Center, thanks to $2 million in federal funds to tenant Synergist Technology Group.

"The people at Synergist Technology Group and the Carbondale Technology Transfer Center are experienced in the technologies which constitute transportation management systems," said Congressman Don Sherwood, who secured the regional transportation management center’s funding. "We will use their expertise and also create new jobs in computer systems engineering to develop the management center."

Synergist Technology Group has received federalfunding under a national program to coordinate and enhance regional transportation information.

Synergist Technology Group President Paul Cacciamani said the project is part of a national program to coordinate and enhance regional transportation information. It will also improve communications for smoother interaction between carriers and public agencies.

"The rationale," he said, "is that a truck entering the United States could be scanned. You then know the driver, the load, the manifest. If it doesn’t stop in Pennsylvania, there’s no reason to pull it over and go through the process."

Under the system Synergist will implement, that data and other information required of transportation companies will be stored at the center and accessible only to those legally entitled. While protecting proprietary data, it will enable agencies to monitor trucks and highways and to deal with situations from traffic jams to disasters. Those capabilities will also improve passenger vehicle safety by giving agencies information on road conditions and truck traffic.
